If you need help just ask

We are getting used to consuming instant, ready-mix, rehash entertainment, Like a river flowing out of wide screens, Endless Home Box Office films and series deliver violence, sex, and psychotic fantasies of the highest production value but devoid of any real nourishment.

HOME ENTERTAINMENT WITHOUT THE BOX OR THE OFFICE
Who has the gumption to ask for simple, live original music played in their own space? It’s direct and intimate, and without the general craziness we have come to see as normal in canned corporate entertainment.

Update: Live show coming up at Scarecrow on Sept 3rd

IN-HOUSE ENTERTAINMENT
In my last post, I offered to play in-house gigs, To prove that there can be a viable house concert circuit here.

desertrdWHY?
NZ has an area as big as Great Britain inhabited by 20 times fewer souls.

Yet we act as if we live in a country that has a huge population. Consequently most gigs are in venues way bigger than called for.

The cost of putting on such shows often outweighs the returns.

The average venue gets such small turnouts that you could literally invite the audience back to your own living room. So why not do just that?

  1. Hey Luke.

Here’s a little more money towards your guitar and music Thanks for filling the air around Queens St with interesting lively music. 🙂 Cheers Julz

    1. Very kind of you Julz. It looks like the guitar is ready and soon to be shipped up to me and that there is enough also to upgrade generally. It is so encouraging to get support directly from the people who appreciate my art and not deal with the minefield of business and bling that surrounds the so called “industry”. It is what it is. I am what I am and for the best part of my life I tried to find a way to “comply” with the “business” only to discover that its impossible unless one completely warps and blings the baby and bounces it on its head in order to play a desperate game that is changing by the day.

For one guy and his lifetime work developing a number of musical styles its just not possible to conform to the HBO way of doing things. My sound is simple and direct and about a more philosophical way of seeing the world….its kind of like primitive art and its a great surprise and encouragement to me that some people actually get it and are prepared to stand behind what I do.

Up until recently this winter was like the dark night of the soul. The city I live in is regressing socially as more and more people take to the streets begging in desperation while at the same time the council prohibits people like Dave Merritt the poet from giving his tiny poetry books on the street……How weird is that? Its a crime to give your own property away on the street. If anyone donates to him I expect that will be classed as criminal too.

Anyway. thanks for the helping hand and let me know what I can do in return. Always keen to do house concerts but so far not one single invite. I think the whole world is hooked on HBO
See you soon my friend my number is 02102592919 call if there is anything I can do to help you

  2. Hi Luke, so glad to here the news about your new guitar. We are interested in a house concert for friends who are moving out to the country as a kind of farewell and send off. Are you available on late afternoon on Sunday 13 September? Not sure what you charge but would love to have a chat over a coffee. Jen 021656954
