White Ribbon Day in Auckland

And now for some news from the London Bar in Auckland.

October was a brilliant month for our Tuesday night gigs up at The London Bar.

The cold hit everyone in September & things got very quiet, though some fantastic musicians such as the talented Mr Peter Fielding (supported on bass by Andy Bennett) and Samuel kept the stage warm.
Chris Priestly, Lydia,Tony, Claire Voltaire & others also made appearances.  But then October hit & the game was truly on.

Our 1st gig of the month saw one of the biggest audiences yet up on Queen Street with a solid line up of artists. Dave & the Gannets played a great set, as did Peter & Andy, and to top the night off the crowd was enraptured by a surprise visit from Yogi playing his brilliant synth accordion. Dave continued to bring his fine voice throughout the month as a soloist.

In fact every Tuesday last month saw great crowds & those that wandered in off the street just for a glass stayed late for the music.

October saw performances by Hot Pink Penny Ashton (wielding a flash pink ukulele) Raylee Bradfield, Ben Tapini (amazing self taught keyboardist), Locky (his poetry had the venue silent – I’ve never seen it so breathless) Ruth Newport, Jo Harrop…. among others.

The month was truly topped off by a sensational (I mean it -these guys rock!) young blues band called Harvey Knows a Killer. They are playing a few professional gigs around Auckland soon and are 100% worth it!

On Tuesday November 25th we have a very special London Mic. We are hosting a fundraiser for Amnesty Internationals White Ribbon Day.

White Ribbon Day 2008 launches a campaign by Amnesty aimed at raising awareness of Women’s Rights & violence against women.

We have a wonderful line up of musicians (including Caitlin Smith – more announced soon) so come up and support this event – while having a good time.
